CRUC: Cold-start Recommendations Using Collaborative Filtering in Internet of Things

    Get PDF
The Internet of Things (IoT) aims at interconnecting everyday objects (including both things and users) and then using this connection information to provide customized user services. However, IoT does not work in its initial stages without adequate acquisition of user preferences. This is caused by cold-start problem that is a situation where only few users are interconnected. To this end, we propose CRUC scheme - Cold-start Recommendations Using Collaborative Filtering in IoT, involving formulation, filtering and prediction steps. Extensive experiments over real cases and simulation have been performed to evaluate the performance of CRUC scheme. Experimental results show that CRUC efficiently solves the cold-start problem in IoT.Comment: Elsevier ESEP 2011: 9-10 December 2011, Singapore, Elsevier Energy Procedia, http://www.elsevier.com/locate/procedia/, 201

Synthesis and magnetic properties of Zr doped ZnO Nanoparticles

    Get PDF
Zr doped ZnO nanoparticles are prepared by the sol-gel method with post-annealing. X-ray diffraction results show that all samples are the typical hexagonal wurtzite structure without any other new phase, as well as the Zr atoms have successfully entered into the ZnO lattices instead of forming other lattices. Magnetic measurements indicate that all the doping samples show room temperature ferromagnetism and the pure ZnO is paramagneism. The results of Raman and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy indicate that there are a lot of oxygen vacancies in the samples by doping element of Zr. It is considered that the observed ferromagnetism is related to the doping induced oxygen vacancies

Vehicle Cardinality Estimation in VANETs by Using RFID Tag Estimator

    Get PDF
Nowadays, many vehicles equipped with RFID-enabled chipsets traverse the Electronic Toll Collection (ETC) systems. Here, we present a scheme to estimate the vehicle cardinality with high accuracy and efficiency. A unique RFID tag is attached to a vehicle, so we can identify vehicles through RFID tags. With RFID signal, the location of vehicles can be detected remotely. Our scheme makes vehicle cardinality estimation based on the location distance between the first vehicle and second vehicle. Specifically, it derives the relationship between the distance and number of vehicles. Then, it deduces the optimal parameter settings used in the estimation model under certain requirement. According to the actual estimated traffic flow, we put forward a mechanism to improve the estimation efficiency. Conducting extensive experiments, the presented scheme is proven to be outstanding in two aspects. One is the deviation rate of our model is 50 % of FNEB algorithm, which is the classical scheme. The other is our efficiency is 1.5 times higher than that of FNEB algorithm.Second International Conference, IOV 2015Chengdu, ChinaDecember 19-21, 201

Energy-efficient node selection algorithms with correlation optimization in wireless sensor networks

The sensing data of nodes is generally correlated in dense wireless sensor networks, and the active node selection problem aims at selecting a minimum number of nodes to provide required data services within error threshold so as to efficiently extend the network lifetime. In this paper, we firstly propose a new Cover Sets Balance (CSB) algorithm to choose a set of active nodes with the partially ordered tuple (data coverage range, residual energy). Then, we introduce a new Correlated Node Set Computing (CNSC) algorithm to find the correlated node set for a given node. Finally, we propose a High Residual Energy First (HREF) node selection algorithm to further reduce the number of active nodes. Extensive experiments demonstrate that HREF significantly reduces the number of active nodes, and CSB and HREF effectively increase the lifetime of wireless sensor networks compared with related works. This work is supported by the National Science Foundation of China under Grand nos. 61370210 and 61103175, Fujian Provincial Natural Science Foundation of China under Grant nos. 2011J01345, 2013J01232, and 2013J01229, and the Development Foundation of Educational Committee of Fujian Province under Grand no. 2012JA12027.
